Looking for volunteers and donations for Thanksgiving Meal at Love and Mercy Church
Love and Mercy Church in Bay Shore invites all those in need to the annual Thanksgiving Meal. There will be two seatings — noon and 3 p.m. — that will serve turkey (of course), mashed potatoes, vegetables, all the side dishes provided and all desserts.
“[It is] a Thanksgiving meal for the homeless, less fortunate and elderly people, or just people that have no place to go or no one to celebrate with,” said Denise Cozzetti, an organizer of the church’s event.
Cozzetti, a Bay Shore resident, said many people from the church and outside get involved in the Thanksgiving Meal, which has been organized each year for 20 years.
“There are volunteers that help cook the meal, people there that heat up dishes that other people bring in, people that serve out the food, and people that wait on tables to serve the guests,” she said. “This is a sit-down meal. We have our guests come in and are waited upon, just as in a restaurant.”
Cozzetti, who has been involved in the cause for more than 10 years alongside her family, said the traction from posting on Facebook groups has made for a large staff of volunteers and creates an avenue for donations as well.
Those who would like to cook or donate food items can bring them to the church on Union Boulevard on Thanksgiving morning between 9 a.m. and 12 p.m.
