Spring and summer fun is quite the institution on Long Island, as beaches and parks are emblematic of “island life.” But what if you don’t have the time to make it out on a camping trip to Fire Island? Or you missed the opportunity for a permit? The Sleepover Fairy, based in Islip, has the solution for outdoor parties, with all the amenities of a luxurious day spa. Described as “an incredible experience for not only our girls, but us big kids as well,” by a repeat customer, Sleepover Fairy is for the whole family.
In operation for just over a year, The Sleepover Fairy has proved to be a mainstay of the South Shore’s warm-weather parties because of its ease, convenience and splendor, all available on a phone call. Everything from kids’ parties to bachelorette or mommy nights is covered in the endless packages offered.
The Sleepover Fairy is just that—a fairy godmother service that brings all the frills and trimmings of a dream night out under the stars straight to your backyard. A 5M Bell Tent is transformed for fully decked-out theme parties (from everything glittery and unicorn-esque, to rough-and-tough camouflage bedding) with luxury air mattresses, linens and décor.
Being a mother of three, an ESL teacher in one of the most challenging school districts on Long Island, and owner of a popular holiday business, Allison Lynch is someone who thrives in a flurry of activity, and summer was not going to be a break for her. Looking to fill the long stretch of academic vacation, Lynch wanted a business that would not take away from her precious time with her children and would bring fun to others. “She really is supermom and she just wants to help everyone be a supermom, too,” said her husband, Brendan.
Her winter endeavor involves dressing up as an elf and visiting Santa believers all over Long Island, as she dazzles the youngsters with information about their behavior the past year (with help from mom and dad), before handing them Yuletide gifts (fuzzy pajamas and slippers) to enjoy the season. Searching for something just as magical in the summertime, Lynch came up with the idea of full-service glamping, or glamorous camping, for your backyard.
Prices start out as low as $250 for just tent and lighting setup and rental, but the upgrade list is endless and by design.
“I wanted to start to a company that not only created special summer memories; I wanted to have a business that helped other small Long Island vendors come together and work towards a community,” she said. “Almost all of my partner vendors—ice cream machines, personalized favors, movie screen projector, custom cakes—are from the South Shore. I want The Sleepover Fairy to feel like part of your family putting together this great party.”
