Local school budgets pass across the board


ISLIP TOWN—Super Tuesday’s results are in. 

The Bay Shore-Brightwaters School District’s budget passed, 1,262 to 399.

Andrew Arcuri was also reelected to a three-year term on the board of education. Arcuri got 715 votes, while his challengers, Thomas Falconer and Nicholas Scott, received 585 and 325 votes, respectively. 

The East Islip School District’s budget passed, 1,292 to 800. 

Voters also approved the ballot proposition for a repair reserve fund, 1,227 to 837, and elected Christopher Nicolia (1,068) over Charles P. Kalinowski (850) for the district’s five-person board of education. The two candidates were running for the open seat that is currently held by Steven Behan, who did not run for reelection. 

The Islip School District’s budget passed, 1,150 to 391. 

Matthew Clareen kept his seat on the board of education by defeating Kristian Woppel, 975 to 465. Danielle Flora, an incumbent, ran unopposed for her seat on the board and got 1,058 votes. 

The West Islip School District’s budget passed, 1,221 to 404. 

The board of education’s vice president, Annmarie LaRosa, was reelected with 1,039 votes. LaRosa ran unopposed, as did Thomas Compitello (1,154 votes) and Peter McCann (1,201 votes). Current trustees Scott Brady and Kevin O’Connor did not run for reelection. 

Voters also approved two ballot propositions. The first, 1,167 to 402, creates a capital reserve fund for improvements to district facilities. The second, 1,248 to 337, allows voter registration during the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., whenever school is in session. 

In addition, the Fire Island School District’s budget passed, 54 to 2. Incumbent school board trustees who ran unopposed were reelected: Jay Lippert received 49 votes and Linda Nowachek received 48 votes.
