Mass held for first responders

Posted

Recognition, respect and love depict what the Blue Mass celebration at Great River’s Emmanuel Episcopal Church is all about. Fr. Ellis Tommaseo, the church’s director, said that simple gratitude is due for those who can be called on around the clock.

This year’s mass, at 10 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 29, will be the third annual at the parish, and it is one of the only events of this kind held on Long Island.

All are welcome to join to celebrate Suffolk County police officers, local fire department personnel and other first responders, including EMTs. A retired NYPD and Suffolk police officer, who is also a priest, will hold the service.

The church’s 23-member youth band will play jazz and church pieces for the service.
