Residents to rally against Bayview apartment project

Residents to protest at Town Hall alongside Stop Island Hills on April 21

The Greater Islip Association announced to its Stop Island Hills group at Sayville Library that Citizens Against Bayview Ave Apartments will rally alongside them just before the April 21 Town Council meeting outside Islip Town Hall. The protest is slated for 5 p.m., an hour before the scheduled board meeting.

The association has encouraged its residents to sign up to speak at the subsequent board meeting, as well as wear their shirts and wield their signs that signify their opposition to the proposed development.

The East Islip coalition, Citizens Against Bayview Ave Apartments, held a meeting on Feb. 15 at American Legion Post 1635 on Bayview Avenue to discuss when they would hold their first protest. Since then, the group has coordinated with the association for their public rallies to coincide, as the two groups’ causes face the fate of the same governmental body.

Greenview Properties has purchased two parcels on Bayview Avenue and has requested a zone change in order to construct senior-living rentals across five buildings. A development at this location, the coalition foresees, would heighten traffic on the already-congested stretch of Montauk Highway.
