Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 4. Though not a presidential election year, local elections will include Suffolk County, Brookhaven Town and Islip Town.
In Suffolk County, both the district attorney and the sheriff races will go unopposed, with both incumbents running, Ray Tierney (R) and Errol D Toulon Jr. (D), respectively.
In the Third Legislative District, Republican incumbent Jim Mazzarella will run against Democratic candidate Beverly A. Theodore (who, according to county Democrats, will not be actively campaigning).
In the Seventh Legislative District, Republican incumbent Dominick Thorne will run against Democratic candidate Jawaan M. Sween (who, according to county Democrats, will not be actively campaigning).
In the Eighth Legislative District, Republican incumbent Anthony Piccirillo will be running against Democratic opponent Kelly Perry Hyland.
In the Ninth Legislative District, Democratic incumbent Sam Gonzalez will be running against Republican opponent Guy G. Leggio.
In the 10th Legislative District, Republican incumbent Trish Bergin will run against Democratic opponent Leigh-Ann M. Bard.
In the 11th Legislative District, Republican candidate Steve Flotteron will run against Democrat Lucas E. Deitch (who, according to county Democrats, will not be actively campaigning).
In Islip Town’s first council district, Democratic incumbent Jorge C. Guadron will run against Republican Manny Troche and in the second district Republican DawnMarie D. Lentz-Kuhn will run against Democrat David Chan for Jim O'Connor’s vacated seat.
And in Brookhaven Town, Republican incumbent Kevin LaValle will run for the town clerk seat against Democrat Tricia Chiaramonte, who will also not be actively campaigning.
Don’t forget to flip the ballot to cast a vote for propositions, including: a statewide proposition that would allow the construction of a skiing complex in Essex County on State Forest Preserve Land, and a county proposition that would revise the county term limit law that would avoid potentially requiring legislators to resign midterm and force a special election, alongside amending county legislator terms from two years to four years.
