Hotel reopening follows successful Sept. 9 reopening of gaming floor

Jake’s 58 Casino Hotel on Long Island is set to reopen 75 of its hotel guest rooms on Oct. 1 under the comprehensive program of new health and safety standards it has used to help keep guests and employees safe since reopening its gaming floor.

The Play It SafeTM program encompasses Jake’s 58’s new operating procedures, which have been reengineered to minimize contact risk. It includes bolstered hygiene protocols to meet or exceed best-practice guidelines of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

For the hotel, guest rooms are being deep cleaned ahead of new guests checking in, with the housekeeping team cleaning and treating rooms with products formulated to eliminate viruses and bacteria. This includes door handles, hard-surface furniture, thermostats, remote controls and light switches. To help maintain social distancing, the staff is not entering guest rooms during stays of three nights or less.

Signage is featured in each room with a QR code that a guest can scan on their smartphone to call the front desk. Limited room service and takeout food and beverage will be available for hotel guests.

“We’re extending our Play It Safe program, which has worked well on our gaming floor, to the hotel to help protect our guests and provide them reassurance during their stay,” said Chuck Kilroy, general manager of Jake’s 58 for operator Delaware North. Delaware North owns and operates the hotel at Jake’s 58 and operates gaming for Suffolk County OTB.

Per the state’s directive, the gaming floor at Jake’s 58 reopened at 25 percent capacity on Sept. 9, with a reduced number of active video gaming machines at least 6 feet apart and employees and guests required to wear face coverings. Reduced food and beverage options are available, but food and beverage is not allowed on the gaming floor. Gaming hours remain 8 a.m. to 4 a.m. daily.

Key elements of the Play it Safe program for the hotel rooms include:

• Guests are asked to adhere to social distancing protocols.

• All incoming guests are required to present identification as a record of their visit for contract tracing purposes.

• All guests are required to wear a mask or other face covering during their visit unless in their rooms. Guests will need to provide their own masks.

• Temperature screening and health check of guests takes place upon entering the facility.

• Touchless service and payment options are now available at food and beverage outlets.

Employees undergo comprehensive training on Play It Safe health and safety standards and are required to strictly adhere to Play It Safe policies and procedures, including rigorous sanitization and hygiene requirements. Employees take a health check, including a temperature screen, when they report to work and are required to wear masks while on duty.

Jake’s 58 is operated by Delaware North, a global hospitality and entertainment company with a portfolio of regional gaming and entertainment destinations. Delaware North has added the Play It Safe program at its gaming destinations in Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Illinois, New York, Ohio, West Virginia and Australia.
