Pedestrian seriously injured in Bay Shore motor vehicle crash

Suffolk County Police Third Squad detectives are investigating a motor vehicle crash that seriously injured a pedestrian in Bay Shore on  Wednesday, January 11  around 5:30 p.m., police said in a press release. 

Mario Rojas was walking eastbound across Fifth Avenue, approximately 50 feet north of Dalton Road, when he was struck by a northbound 2011 Mercedes Benz ML350 at approximately 5:25 p.m.

Rojas, 83, of Bay Shore was transported via Brentwood Legion Ambulance to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore for treatment of serious injuries. The driver of the Mercedes, Helen Kaimis, 62, of Dix Hills, was not injured, the release said. 

The Mercedes was impounded for a safety check. Anyone with information on the crash is asked to contact the Third Squad at 631-854-8352.
