Subsequent to Sayville football winning the 2024 Suffolk County championship, there was a plethora of merits awarded to the county champions.
Six footballers were esteemed the citation of All County: quarterback Patrick Coan, wide receiver/defensive back Tomas McCann, linebacker/tight end Mikey Sands, running back/defensive back Kyle Messina, offensive lineman/defensive lineman Alex LaBella, and wide receiver/defensive back Dylan Kent.
Mikey Sands was the recipient of the Bob Collotta Award, given annually to the best linebacker in Suffolk County, as well as the Rob Burnett Award as the county’s best defensive player.
Sands also was named the Defensive MVP of the 2024 Long Island Championship. Patrick Coan was bestowed the honor of 2024 Long Island Championship Offensive MVP as he went 16 for 32 with 223 passing yards and four touchdown passes.
Kyle Messina was acclaimed the co-recipient of the Joe Cipp Award, merited to the top running back in Suffolk. Messina ran for 1,756 yards this fall on 190 carries and scored 26 touchdowns. In his four years as a varsity letterman, Messina registered 103 total touchdowns (94 rushing touchdowns) and summated 6,374 yards.
The Golden Flashes were hailed the laurel of the 2024 Rutgers Trophy as the best varsity football squad in Suffolk County. It is the sixth time in school history the purple and gold earned the honor prior winning the trophy in 1972, 2004, 2011, 2021, and 2022.
