The Long Island Dog Owners’ Group is hosting their annual Howl-o-Ween Costume Contest and Pawty at the Pine Grove Inn, in Patchogue, on Sunday, Oct. 20, from 12 to 4 p.m.

On the banks of the Swan River, the afternoon will be picturesque and Instagram-ready for you and your pooch.

There will be music, games, raffles, and food and drink for the humans and plenty of time to show off for the dogs.

The costume contest and parade will start at 1:30 p.m. There are two categories to compete in: Best Standalone Pet or Best Pet/Parent duo with a first, second, and third-place winner in each category.

“Competition can be stiff, so make sure you come up with a great idea for you and your pup,” said LI-DOG president, Ginny Munger Kahn.

Pictured are some of last year’s winners, including Percy from “Toy Story,” Harley and Cassie as a magician and his rabbit, and Rocco as TY Beanie Baby.

A Paw Printing Booth is available to help make a lasting memory of your fur baby.

Brave dogs can enter the Spooky Photo Booth, where they will be amongst goblins.

The Pine Grove Inn will feature Howl-o-Ween-themed drinks as well as a doggie menu.

Past Howl-o-Ween and other LI-DOG events included chicken with carrots or steak with broccoli for the pets.

Special guests include Laura Paesano, the talented owner of Laura Pea Photography, who will be on hand photographing all of the guests; Barks Bakery, which will be selling delicious treats for your pups; and Rachel The Dog Trainer for special training questions.

The outdoor event is LI-DOG’s most important fundraising event of the year.

A 501(c)(3), LI-DOG is a nonprofit organization that works to create dog parks and increase access to public parkland and beaches for Long Island dog owners and their dogs so they can enjoy Long Island’s beautiful parks and beaches just like every other family on Long Island.

LI-DOG has organized dog owners and worked with elected officials and parks officials since 1998 to create 10 dog parks and dozens of new on-leash dog-walking trails on Long Island parkland.

Among the some of the off-leash areas LI-DOG has helped create are:

  • Blydenburgh
  • Cherry Avenue (Sayville)
  • Huntington
  • Robinson Duck Farm
  • Selden
  • West Hills Dog Parks
  • Eisenhower

In addition, LI-DOG worked with the Suffolk Parks Department to establish the off-leash beach at Mud Creek County Park in East Patchogue.

More recently, LI-DOG has helped open new on-leash dog walking trails in Nassau County and Town of Huntington parks, where walking leashed dogs was previously banned. These on-leash trails can be found in Eisenhower Park, Christopher Morley Park, Mill Pond Park and Massapequa Preserve in Nassau County. The Town of Huntington opened virtually all town parks to leashed dogs in August 2017, as a result of  the recommendation of the Huntington Greenway Trails Committee on which LI-DOG serves.

LI-DOG also organizes and participates in dog-friendly events to raise money and awareness of their cause. Among LI-DOG’s most popular events are its signature LI-DOG Pack WalksTM—guided group on-leash dog walks in dog-friendly parks around Long Island. The popularity of LI-DOG Pack WalksTM—they regularly attract dozens of dog owners and their dogs—highlights how much people want and enjoy walking their dogs in public parks.
