“It was a fantastic turnout for the ‘March of the Scarecrows’!” said Oakdale Historical Society president, Maryann Almes, of the annual contest held at the historical colonial St. John’s Church on Montauk Highway.
Eleven scarecrows were submitted for the competition and 68 community members came to the churchyard to cast their vote.
“While we thought that they all were winners in their creativity and originality, there can only be three cash prizes awarded,” said Almes.
The following are the winners:
First Place ($100): OBMS Show Choir’s Queen of Hearts. Second Place ($50): The Calvo family’s Nightmare Before Christmas. Third Place ($25): Flipping for Fall
The scarecrows will remain on display at St. John’s until Nov. 4. “Thank you to all our participants and to our wonderful community for supporting us and our Scarecrow Contest,” said Almes.
