Volleyball archrivals have ‘great match’

Posted

The Sayville girls varsity volleyball team defeated Bayport-Blue Point, winning three sets in a row on Thursday, Sept. 19, at the Phantoms home game.

“This year we have a lot of new players in big roles. They are stepping up to the challenge, taking the wins, and as a way to learn and continue to get better. I told them this is a very long process that you have to embrace.   And they are doing just that: staying strong as a team and keeping that positive attitude to just focus on what’s immediately next,” said BBP coach, Toni McKinnon.

“It’s always fun playing Toni at Bayport,” said Sayville coach, Debbie Urso.

“We knew going into it, it was going to be a great match.  They have a great coach as well as great athletes.  It was a battle as expected and a ton of fun to play in!

We are rivals, yet the girls on both sides show great respect for one another.

We had several great performances that night.  Every girl on the roster played and stepped in to do their job, and did it well,” said Urso.

Sayville players Trinity Ricevuto passed a 2.8 and combined with Adria Vargas for 28 digs and 13 kills, while Karley Ruckert and Julia Sack combined for six kills and Jill Livingston added four.

Libero Makenzie Muscarello and defensive specialist Bella Lundquist combined for six aces and 20 digs.

“The crowd had energy and so did both sides; it was a fun match to be in! We are excited to see them again,” said Urso.
