Turf tennis courts at Oregon Middle

Patchogue-Medford School District recently announced the addition of four new state-of-the-art turf tennis courts planned for Oregon Middle School.

“The Patchogue-Medford School District is proud to provide this specialized state-of-the-art facility for our students and community,” said superintendent of schools Donna Jones. “These turf tennis courts are durable, multifunctional, and unique, and as a result, they will provide our students with more opportunities to develop and display their athletic abilities and success.”

The cost of the courts includes the installation of a specialized turf designed specifically for tennis, as well as an advanced drainage system. This investment, according to the district, will ensure the courts remain playable immediately after rain, unlike traditional hard courts, which can take time to dry.

Additionally, the turf tennis courts are among the first of their kind in the nearby area. The installation of the turf tennis courts, athletic director Anthony Cracco said, is part of the district’s commitment to providing state-of-the-art facilities for their students and community.

“Patchogue-Medford is extremely excited to bring a state-of-the-art playing surface for our tennis teams at Oregon Middle School,” said Cracco. “This facility not only enhances the experience for our student-athletes, but also provides a versatile space for the entire community. It stands as a testament to our district’s forward-thinking approach and our dedication to offering the best possible amenities for both our students and local residents.”

The courts will be utilized by the boys’ and girls’ tennis teams as well as the physical education classes. The plan is to begin the project in October. However, the district is still collecting bids before a project cost is finalized.

ADVANTANGES OF TURF TENNIS COURTS

Durability: Turf courts do not crack or require the same level of maintenance as traditional hard courts, making them more cost-effective in the long run.

All-weather playability: The integrated drainage system allows for play immediately after rain, reducing downtime.

Versatility: The courts can also host other activities, such as small-sided soccer games or box lacrosse, maximizing the use of the space.
